Once you’ve completed college and/or start your job, you’ll need to find housing. Research apartments in the area that you’d like to live and find one that you could actually afford. The following sites will help with your search.

  • Apartment Finder - Type in the city you'd like to live in and search for available apartments in your price range.

  • Trulia - Search for homes for rent and for sale.

  • Realtor.com - Search for homes and apartments for rent and for sale.

Once you've found a place then answer the following questions and record the answers on your spreadsheet:

  • Where is this apartment located?

  • How many bedrooms and bathrooms does it have?

  • What is the monthly rental fee?

  • What utilities are included in the rent? (Utilities include electric, water, and gas)

Some utilities aren't included in your rent. For those utilities that aren't included, you'll need to estimate the monthly utility costs.

  • Utility estimates - Use this site to give you an idea of price ranges for monthly electric, gas, and water bills. Base your estimates on how much of each utility you'd use. (ex. If you use a lot of water per month, estimate on the higher end of the range.)

  • Cable - Research Comcast and Verizon to find a cable package that would work for you.

You'll also need to have food and supplies in your new place! Use this site below to estimate your monthly shopping bill and record your answer in your spreadsheet.

  • Netgrocer.com - Use this site to make a sample shopping list for the month. Remember, you need to have enough food for three meals a day for thirty days. Don't forget paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, razors, etc!
